What is a Melges 24?

The brainchild of former America's Cup tactician Buddy Melges, the Melges 24 started the sportboat revolution. Using innovations learned in the succesfull America's 3 campaign, the M24 is considered by many to be the ultimate one-design racing experience. Carbon fiber is used in the mast, keel, bowsprit and tiller to lower the center of gravity on the boat, making it more seaworthy and able to carry more sail area (Faster). Designed to be sailed by a crew of 4, the Melges uses a large self-bailing cockpit to it's advantage, allowing plenty of room for each person to fufill their role.
